Advanced Meisner Class with David A Cox

We are very excited to have David A Cox with us for Advanced Meisner Classes.

David was trained under the legendary Sanford Meisner

The Meisner Technique is a renowned acting method developed by Sanford Meisner, a prominent member of the Group Theatre in the 1930s. It focuses on helping actors develop truthful, spontaneous, and emotionally connected performances. The technique is centered on living truthfully under imaginary circumstances, emphasizing presence, listening, and genuine reactions over pre-planned or overly intellectualized choices.

David Began his teaching career in Hollywood California in 1973. 

He studied directly under the World-famous acting teacher Sanford Meisner in his New York City  in his Private Class. He attended the classes from 1966 until 1970, Sandy as we called him was in his heyday of teaching. 

David then spent several years in New York City performing in the Off Off Broadway  movement writing, acting and directing in Greenwich Village along with many well known actors, and writers of that time period.

He Briefly moved to Vermont and founded the Brandon Playhouse where he taught a group of students for two years,

Moving on to Los Angeles in 1977 (Hollywood), where for the next thirty five years he did several leading film rolls and even more co- starring roles on Television and founded the American Renegade Theatre Company, where as the Artistic Director from 1988 until 2005 directed and acted in over 65 plays. Taking two of them to Off Broadway in New York City to (extremely good reviews from the New York Times), As well as playing Leading roles in several full length major films. During this period he began to teach the Meisner Technique starting in 1983.

In Hollywood. He wrote to Sandy to ask his permission to teach his technique where upon Sandy wrote him back saying “ I would be proud to have you teach it, and I will actually come to your class,” Which made David realize what a humble and genuine man he was, Sandy moved to North Hollywood soon after David opened his Theatre in the Los Angeles

NO HO Arts District which David Co -Founded with the North Hollywood  Universal City Chamber Of Commerce.

The No Ho Arts district is now the most famous District for Theatre and Arts in the Los Angeles City and David  believes is Now The entire State of California As he formed the New Valley Theatre League at the time to invite them to become part of the NO HO Arts District which many did.

In 2005 . David moved to Austin ,Texas and continued to Teach and when the scene there began to dwindle he moved to Atlanta Georgia continuing to Teach a class using the teachings of Both Meisner and Michael Shurtleff Audition Method which he still teach today finding that this technique is a magical formula for the new training of actors since it has led to more and more actors receiving lead and supporting roles from a renewed confidence in their auditions and acting performances in both Film and Theatre.

in addition to Teaching David enjoys to write ( Eight full length screenplays , Two Full length Plays and Three fiction books as well as twenty five not as yet published short stories. For any specific work please contact me or this studio.
